Backyard at Ridgefield - Dick Roberts

Oil on canvas with palette knife from 1961.

We all lived here then, before the divorce. I think the address was around number 79 Bayberry Hill Road. (It was at the top of the circle). Lots of evergreens in the big yard.
Dick built us a child-size log cabin out back.

We watched Sputnik flyover from the side yard.

If we walked straight out the backyard through the woods, we came to the house of the man who did the Chase Manhattan commercials in the 60's - "You have a Friend at Chase Manhattan."

Self-portrait 1971

A wonderful pencil on paper self portrait from 1971. I'm not sure if this was done as a stand alone work or if it was a preliminary drawing for one of Dad's oil on canvas self-portraits. It looks pretty "finished" so it may have been for some other project.

Early Self Portrait - Richard J Roberts

Dick studied oil painting with Delos Palmer in Stamford CT in the 1940s. His early work shows the Palmer influence as in this self portrait from 1956.
This is my first post on Dick's blog. I hope to be adding all of the extant paintings and drawings in my collection as well as the ones I can find from family and friends.
If you run across this site and have something to share and can send a picture, please email me and let me know. I'd love to be able to archive Dick's work in one place for posterity.
Thanks,
Jeff
