Call for Help

Hi All,

How can you help? I’m glad you asked. If you have stuff of Dick’s and a digital camera and a tape measure and the inclination, I’d love it if you’d take a picture, and send it to me along with what you know about it: Title, dimensions (not including frames), medium (e.g. oil on canvas, or oil on panel) the year and which signature he used. I’ve found: Dick Roberts, Richard Roberts, R. J. Roberts, and from around ’72 on the signature also included an Egyptian Ankh (symbol of life – cross with round top).

When I get any, I’ll add them to the blog museum and credit you as the current owner. (Collection of so and so).

Thanking all in advance,

Jeff
Head Curator

My Mother's House, 1971, Dick Roberts

Original Oil Painting,

Richard J. "Dick" Roberts
"My Mother's House", 1971
Oil on Panel
Panel Size: 23" x 30"

Crack lines on face of house are painted on, not cracks in the paint. According to Dick's brother, John, this was not their mother's house, so Dick may have painted this under a commission.

Dick was a student of Delos Palmer from 1945 to 1947.

Untitled - House with Two Wood Piles

Completely unknown to me.

I found this photograph in a box of small Joan Mary Bassaro wood block prints that I found in Dick's attic on Pepper Ridge Road in 2010.

As best as I can discern it was done in 1948 or 1949. The date in the signature is very hard to read in the photo. This would make Dick 18 or 19 when he painted it.

No idea of the size, but it looks like many of his 24 x 30 type canvas panels from that period.

Anyone recognize the house, please shoot me a note at opmjeff@gmail.com.
